They started by writing a food blog; today they run a renowned Prague café and a newly opened bistro, and are living more than one dream come true. Petr and Gábi. Food lovers who are not afraid to experiment, explore and turn their passion into something we can all taste today. We asked the founders of Etapa and Šodó about their shared home, how it changed with the birth of their daughter Beátka, and their must-have cookbooks.

Your apartment is beautiful. Can you tell us more about how you found it?

It will probably surprise a lot of people, but we found it a few years ago on Bazoš, a Czech classifieds site.

How long did it take before you truly felt at home in it?

The apartment went through a complete renovation, which was demanding and took about a year. As soon as we finished it, we got the gas cooker working, brought in a mattress, and that feeling of "we're home" came straight away.

A comfortable sofa is best for lounging with soft cushions and a throw.

What do you think makes a home?

Plants, books, the smell of food and shoes scattered around.

And what does it smell like?

In our home, like our dog Jonáš.

Do you have favourite home fragrances or candles?

I love heavier scents and most often go back to P.F. Candle Co., which makes candles as well as incense sticks.

Which room do you spend the most time in?

The living room, which is connected to the kitchen. It's big and airy and gets the most daylight.

The kitchen, dining area and living room form a cosy space full of wood, plants and books.

How would you describe your apartment in three words?

Cosy, chaotic and airy at the same time.

How often do you change, shift or move things around at home?

Very often. We love change. Every month we alter something, so our apartment is constantly in motion.

Which piece of furniture took you the longest to find?

The oak bed. A beautiful clean design from our beloved BUDU.

An oak bed dressed in the Old Memories, Quiet Jungle and Monochrome Melange collections.

Did you make anything in the apartment yourselves?

Just a few drawings. And Petr's mum sewed us a tent that hangs over Beátka's bed.

How did your home change after Beátka was born?

It became more colourful. We started feeling the need to surround ourselves with more colours that are lively and evoke a sense of playfulness and joy.

The children's room is Gábi's favourite place.

What do you think makes any space cosier?

A plant, a beautiful lamp with the right bulb and a soft blanket.

And what should everyone have at home?

Tough question. Probably a quality mattress and bedding. After all, we spend about a third of our lives in bed.

What does the feeling of freshly changed bedding evoke in you?

Childhood. When my mum tucked me in under a cool blanket. And summer at my grandma's.

"A plant, a beautiful lamp with the right bulb and a soft blanket."

Do you have lots of cookbooks at home? Can you recommend three you consider must-haves?

  • Anna Jones - One: Pot, Pan, Planet: A Greener Way to Cook for You and Your Family
  • Ottolenghi - Simple
  • Mimi Thorisson - French Country Cooking

What is your favourite Lejaan product?

Bedding made of Tencel Lyocell and cotton fibres. It's love at first touch.

And is there anything (still) missing from the Lejaan range for you?

Linen sprays. And beautiful plain tablecloths.

The bathroom is dominated by solid wood furniture and the Honest Cotton towel collection.

My favourite ritual is...

a bath with a book.

My favourite spot in the apartment is...

Beátka's room.

My favourite home accessories are...

candles, pictures and cushions.

At home I like to wear...

a T-shirt and joggers.

the way the kitchen, living room and hallway connect to create one large, airy space.
